Tesco goes mobile
March 11th, 2008
It’s not clear if people will ever buy their weekly shop from a mobile phone but this hasn’t stopped Tesco from taking its first steps into m-commerce.
The retailer has now started testing selling flowers with a view to extending its offering to more products in the future.
Buying groceries from Tesco Mobile seems unlikely at the moment but as advances in digital shopping continue, along with handset improvements, there’s no reason why a portable store in your pocket can’t become a reality.
Tesco currently has 1,897 stores in the UK with 25.9m square feet of shelf space. But with limitations being imposed on its growth, creating a new storefront on the UK’s 50m mobiles makes sense.
Amazon and Ebay, both simple to use transactional sites with great user experience, have transitioned well to the mobile platform. The experience which they have put together is elegant and simple to use.
Who knows we may even be able to do our grocery shopping from the pub, back of a car or even on the football terraces if Tesco get’s its way!
